Next Door to Heaven began as a brick and mortar retail shop in Weatherford Texas by my mom Teresa, and me Amy. In 2007 we first heard of an up and coming website called Etsy and we thought it might be good to join and maybe drive some traffic to our Weatherford Shop. We offered a mix of vintage and handmade items in our shop so Etsy seemed the perfect fit for us. If we happened to sell a few things in the process that would be great too. We first listed some of our mosaics and stained glass and for a long time sold a very popular line of soldered glass ornaments we made with vintage ephemera.
It was quite by Providence that we began working in burlap. We had come up with a few different ideas for some pillows to sell in our shop. We experimented with a variety of fabrics and techniques and none seemed to work out. Then one day we went to one of our favorite local stores and happened across some white burlap. We were loving the look of all the pillows and ottomans we had seen made with vintage feed sacks and coffee sacks so we thought we would give burlap a try. We went home and meticulously hand cut the stencil and as it turns out burlap was a wonderful canvas. We sewed the stenciled burlap into a pillow, listed it on Etsy and we sold our first burlap pillow in August of 2009. We soon expanded our line to include, doorstops, bookends, message boards, and journals. A few months later in 2010 we closed are retail shop and have been full time on Etsy ever since.
Since we do work at our shop full time we strive to ship our orders out quickly with a turnaround time of 2 to 3 days. We feel so blessed to be able to get up everyday and create. Our designs spring from those things we love best, nature, nautical, quotes, and vintage ephemera. We also find much joy in making personalized items for life’s most special occasions.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our shop and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
